Please give us some background on your business concept.

I started crocheting when I was around 5-6 but only recently started participating in vendor events. I try to find as many “Cajun critters” patterns as I can and my items can be found in local stores around the area as well! I mainly focus on local animals and lay flat snugglers that make unique gifts made to last.
How did you choose your business name, or what inspired you to get started?
I chose the name “Bon Temps Creative Arts” because it truly brings to life my love of creating that was started at an early age. Growing up my Cajun grandparents would always say “allons passe un bon temps” and taught me all sorts of crafts from crocheting to woodworking.
Who or what has been your biggest creative influence?:
My family has been my greatest inspiration in my life. Making handmade blankets and animals for my own sons made me want to share something beautiful with others that will hopefully become a treasured gift.
Do you have any rituals or habits that help you get into a creative mindset?
Coffee! I love sipping a hot cup of coffee while I plan my patterns and creations for the day.
What does a typical day in your studio or workspace look like?
I currently work full time as well as run my small business. So weekdays usually are chaos with late hours of crocheting to complete orders and inventory! Hopefully one day I will have expanded my business enough to get a studio building that will be a dedicated work space for my fiber creations.
How would you describe your style or aesthetic?

My items are more of a “boho chic” style with neutral color palettes. However I do love splashes of color now and then!
What’s a project or piece that has meant the most to you, and why?
The first blanket I made for my oldest son will always have a special place in my heart. I also still have the first crochet project I ever made and I love being able to see how far I have come on my creative journey!
How has being part of a creative community shaped your work?
I love the camaraderie of creating friendships with other vendors and supporting each others businesses. They have given me amazing suggestions and help with growing my business.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the Acadiana creative scene?
Network with the other vendors you meet! Reach out to local businesses and see if they would be interested in carrying your items. My largest orders now come from local shops that I cold called to find out if they were open to offering my items.
Are there any local artists or creatives you admire and want to shout out?
Too many to count! My absolute favorite is Papillon Savon, their products smell amazing! All of the local vendors featured in La Boutique at Vermilionville are wonderful.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I lived in France and have traveled all over Europe. Because of that I’m now fluent in standard French along with a working knowledge of Cajun French!
If you weren’t doing this, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Only focusing on my day job haha!
